Nutrition
In today’s world, we are bombarded with misinformation, especially on the topic of nutrition. It is much easier to teach new information than to help one “unlearn” dated or wrong information. Eating healthy is much easier than being tired and sick. Here are some common nutritional myths and lies…
- Myth: Diets are the way to lose weight.
- Fact: Diets do not work. When most people go on a diet, more than half the weight they lose is lean tissue or muscle. When we lose muscle, we lose strength, muscle tone, bone density, shape, youth, and precious energy. This causes a drastic shutting-down of our metabolism. After the painful diet is over, we will usually gain all of the weight back including some extra weight. Much of this new weight is usually fat. Sound familiar? Stop the madness and learn.
- Myth: Eating fats make you fat.
- Fact: Fats are essential to our health, appearance, and well-being. In the 90’s we were told to stop eating fat. If you look at statistics, Americans are fatter than ever. The quality or source of fat is what’s important. Recent studies have shown that most Americans are deficient in these essential fats. Depression has been linked to these deficiencies in current research. Put down those fat-free cookies
- Myth: Counting calories works.
- Fact: It is impossible to count calories. Have you ever tried? One apple may have 90 calories, while another apple could have 200! Madness. In addition, everyone’s body burns calories at a different rate.
- Fact: Some people burn more calories sitting than other people do running. You
can change your metabolism instantly at any age. If any of these big business weight loss companies worked, they would soon go out of business. Think about it. - Myth: We must read nutrition labels.
- Fact: Ever read the nutrition label on a bag of raw almonds? 14g of fat will scare most dieters. However these types of fats not only help us lose fat, but help to correct blood sugar as well. Read the ingredient labels instead. Can you pronounce the ingredients? Are you familiar with them? Most health bars and shakes contain more chemicals than actual foods. These chemicals are hard on the body and take very long to digest and assimilate. Some of them are closer to plastic than food when looked at under a microscope. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.
